K For Kishore: Om Shanti Om(Jugal Bandi – Kis Mein Kitne Hain Kishore) Every episode of this extravagant show is turning out with a new and amazing flavor. Today’s theme was presented with an equally inimitable manner. It was a musical war between the two great judges, one a wonderful singer and the other being an astounding musician. Bappi Da and Sudesh Bhonsle started the program with the brilliant musical fight from the movie ‘Padosan’. This song brings a full dose of laughter not only with the different treatment of the song but also the classical performance from Mehmood, Kishore Kumar, Sunil Dutt and Shaira Banu. While Bappi Da and Sudesh fought for Jhumroos and Bangdus, respectively, it created the mood that kept lingering through out the show which will last till the next episode.

The prevailing theme of the show was ‘Kis Mein Kitne Hain Kishore’. The singers were paired with one each from Jhumroo and Bangdu team. The show was about ‘Jugal Bandi’, where two contestants would be trying to prove who is better than the other is. Today, as a replacement of Amit Kumar, we had the lovely Mrs. Leena Ganguly. The host and hostess of the show were as usual lively and engrossing. Rajeshwari was exhibiting a 70’s look with a rainbow colored ‘Patiala’ suit with a proper ‘Punjabi parandi’.

The first pair to come on stage was ‘Jodi 1’, i.e., Jhumroo Apurva and Bangdu Kshitij. Leena chose the songs for this pair to perform. She asked Apurva to sing one of her favorite numbers, ‘Geet Gata Hoon Main’ from the movie ‘Lal Patthar’. Apurva’s performance was liked by the judges but it was not termed as one of his best performance. With Sudesh showing his talent for Raj Kumar, tried to express his opinion on Apurva’s performance, he scored a total of 24. Kshitij was asked to sing the most romantic ‘Tum Bin Jaoon Kahan’ from the movie ‘Pyar Ka Mausam’ (1969). He was also tagged as an average performer and scored 23. He was lagging behind his competitor Apurva by only one point. The judges gave them their scores after their combined performance of the song which Kishore Da had sung with a female voice ‘Le Gayi Mera Dil’ from Half Ticket.

The next pair to come on stage was ‘Jodi 2’ aka Jhumroo Vinod Sheshadri and Bangdu Chetan Rana. Jhumroo Vinod was fully attired to prove himself the true disciple of Kishore Da. Sudesh was requested to give them the numbers to perform on stage. He decided ‘Yeh Kya Hua’ from the movie ‘Amar Prem’ (1971) for Vinod and ‘Saanson Se Nahin’ from the movie ‘Mohabbat’ (1985), one of the compositions of Bappi Da for Chetan. Vinod’s problem with trying to follow one particular manner of Kishore Da’s style again made him receive words of advice from the judges. He tries very hard to sing the song in the right manner but somehow it turned animated. The judges declared that his songs missed the finesse.. Both Leena and Sudesh pointed out to his mistakes in his pronunciation. He scored an average total score of 22. Chetan was praised quite a lot for his performance and scored a nice 27 with 9s from all the judges. He seemed to have touched everyone’s hearts with his performance. It was one of his best performances so far. Sudesh again showed his multifaceted talent and sang the song ‘Cheel Cheel Chilaake’ from backwards.

The third pair or ‘Jodi 3’ was that of Jhumroo Arnab and Bangdu Chintan. Bappi Da chose the songs for this pair. He wanted Arnab to sing the sensuous number ‘Roop Tera Mastana’ from the movie ‘Ardhana’. Chintan was requested to sing the evergreen romantic title from the movie ‘Dream Girl’. The song was immortalized by Kishore da’s singing as well as Dharmendra’s and Hema Malini’s performances. Chintan’s wife was present amongst the audience and it was like he was singing for her, his dream girl! All including the judges enjoyed Arnab’s performance. His total worked out to 27, with all 9’s for individual scores. Chintan, though was unable to get closer to Arnab, ended up with an average score of 24. His performance was tagged as good but not great.

Chintan Bakiwala – Dreamgirl

The celebrity guest performer this evening, was the first ‘Indian Idol’ winner Abhijeet Sawant. He rocked the stage with a number from the movie ‘Don’, ‘Khaike Paan Banaras wala’. A classic hit of 1970’s with Kishore-Amitabh giving their best.

As was the pattern of the show this week, the elimination of one of these singers was nearing. The three singers who were in danger zone were Kshitij, Vinod and Chintan. They were asked to sing the song ‘Choo Kar Mere Man Ko’ from the movie ‘Yaraana’. The obvious winner in this judgment level performance was Chintan and as Chintan moved to the safe zone.

Abhijeet requested the judges to postpone the elimination round, as it was very painful for him to see another contestant leave. The elimination will definitely be inevitable in the next episode, and it will be a trying time for both Kshitij and Vinod. Next week would be a moment for sadness and a time to witness some more enjoyable performances; until then we can hum Kishore Da’s philosophical song ‘Yeh Jeevan Hai’.
