Kishore Kumar fans await Javed Akhtar’s money

Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh), Aug 8 (IANS) Lyricist Javed Akhtar is under attack for not giving the ‘promised money’ to renovate a memorial to singing legend Kishore Kumar at his birthplace here.
The fans say that Javed Akhtar last year publicly pledged to donate the Rs.100,000 in prize money he got for winning the Kishore Kumar National Award to renovate the Kishore memorial. But he has not kept the promise.
‘Javed’s gesture was a gimmick,’ said a fan in Khandwa, 192 km from Bhopal.
The Kishore Kumar award, instituted by the Madhya Pradesh government in 1997, is given away for direction, acting, script writing and lyrics every year. It carries Rs.100,000 and a citation. Akhtar won it last year.
Khandwa residents say even after a year Javed Akhtar’s promised money is yet to reach the town.
Kishore Kumar was born in Khandwa Aug 4, 1929. The singer’s family house stands opposite the Khandwa railway station in a dilapidated condition. The singer left for Mumbai (then Bombay) when he was 18. He died on Oct 13, 1987, in Mumbai from a heart attack. He was cremated in Khandwa.
As a tribute to the singer, the Khandwa municipal corporation erected a two-foot-high, 15-foot-long and 10-foot-wide rectangular structure at the cremation ground as a memorial.
However, the so-called memorial has neither a plaque nor an epitaph. The structure has, in the 19 years since the singer-actor died, literally fallen apart.
Wild grass and shrubs grow through the cracks in the structure. Many tiles have chipped off. A portrait faintly resembling the singer can still be seen.
The people of Khandwa collected Rs.100,000 by contributing a rupee each for a memorial in an effort coordinated by Bollywood poet-lyricist Vitthal Bhai Patel. But Khandwa Mayor Tarachand Agarwal did not permit the restoration.
Even Kishore’s son Amit Kumar has not bothered to get the memorial repaired, says Sita Ram, who has been the watchman at Kishore’s house for over 35 years.
‘Amit visited Khandwa only twice - once when Kishoreda was cremated and the second time on his way to Indore for a show. He promised to perform stage shows in Khandwa to raise money to get the memorial repaired,’ Sita Ram told IANS.
But he never did.

I had and still have great respect for Javed Akhtar and therefore I am at loss to understand as to why he has not fulfilled his promise although he won the award in the name of Kishor Kumar. I suggest why not get in touch with him and see what he has to say.

See if we really want to renovate the kishore da’s memorial ,we have to not depend upon others ,when his own son is not intrested in such things i think its not fair to ask a bollywood personality to donate money for this work…. i think its completely hopeless.
So ,if we the people who are fans, who really wants the memorial to be in good condtion lets collect funds n try it again for renovation …GOOD LUCK

I never say bad about any singer and I will never do that,but i think it is wrong 2 wait money from some one as i think award should give from Gov’t or Bollywood not from fans.
I think it bad to give award in the name of man that and not all beleave that he or she is the best,You don’t think that SJ,Madan Mohan,Naushand, LP and SD are better than RD?!!You don’t think that is wrong give award in the name of RD?

I think its pathetic for so called music lovers to critisize other singers. I am a Rafi & Kishore fan, both were great singers and they themselves had highest regards for each other! Why do we have to lower ourselves to critisize others! Who are we to do that! Singers like Rafi, Kishore, Lata, Asha, Mukesh, Talat Mahmood etc. were all great singers in their own right.
There has always been politics, prejudice and patriotism in the bollywood industry, sad to say and this certainly was the case in the music side of the industry.
Why as human beings can’t we respect each other! Is it really that difficult.

I like the Great Artist Kishore da very much. People say that he was a good singer. But I say that he was not only a great singer but great actor, great music director, great lyricist, great producer & a great Director. I’ve a big collection of his songs & films. Kishore Da had a very unique voice & dancing talent.

Kishore Kumar is undoubtedly all’s favourite.His songs are most played,most heard,most sung in singing competitions and functions,most loved.The way he gave soul to every song lifts one spirit.As Bapi Lahiri once told,his range was the best,throwing-excellent.The modulation of his voice for every actor he sung was awesome.

On the memorial front, it is best that we do not pass comments on why people have or have not contributed to the memorial.
As for his son himself visiting the place only twice in the last 2 years et al, I’m not sure if most of you even know the financial crisis the family was in - in the last few years. Given that his son does not have offers, second son is not looking at films, the family finally let out Kishore’s Xanadu - Gauri Kunj on rent to Swank Salon just to sustain themselves!!!
Having visited his family personally and his bungalow post the rent-out, honestly my perspectives changed.

KK was the greatest singer ever lived. In Pakistan he has millions of fans like me. We all miss him. I wish we can donate to this cause and not wait for Mr. Javed. He and many others in Bollywood owe so much to this legend. Too bad today they are not coming forward. Kishore built the careers of Amitabh, Rajesh Khanna and others with his voice and super hit songs. He was great and his voice will keep him in our hearts.

MUSIC lovers are supposed to love music and musicians alike and not criticise publicly as it leaves a bad taste and exhibits a low esteem of the person. MohdRafi and Kishore Kumar are great artists and both are very good. Some persons will like KK, some Rafi, some Saighal and some Mukesh, Manna and Talat Mahmood. What gems they all have given to the
muic field. Male singers were not dominating like few female singers who
monopoloised singing, and drove great singers out of the industry and in to
poverty.
Some of KKs songs are gold; Rafi himself used to acknowledge it and KK also used to reciprocate to Rafi in the same way. KK wrote to FILMFARE magazine that he himself was a great fan of Rafi saab.
I met composer Pyarelal ji recently and he openly stated that KK used to tell him, give this song to Rafi, he will sing this.Once KK called Rafi over
the phone to the studio and asked him to sing KKs song in front of an amazed group of musicians.
So music lovers my request is to respect the artistes because they have
given us all a treasure for many generations to enjoy.
I have met KK and his family in UAE and spent some fine moments with them. KK and Rafi - both are great and it will remain the same for many centuries to come.

Indeed KK is an was a great singer/actor/director just like (singer) Mohd. Rafi, Hemant (lyricst, singer) , Mukesh, Talat, all in their own way.

MUSIC lovers of the world unite and strive to bring melody
back in to our movies and lives in place of computer driven
artificial sounds that has invaded our times.
We lost O.P.Nayyar recently but we have composers Ravi,
Pyarelal,Khayyam, Usha Khanna and many other gems
who can give good tunes to the world of music.
New composers must not copy trends but come out with original
soulful music that touches the heart and remains there for
a long time.
There is a need to bring back the music soul of KK, Rafi, Saighal,
Mukesh, Talat, and Manna Dey. The new set of composers have
failed us and that is why olden golden numbers continue to
mesmerise the music lovers.
I hope we will get great numbers from the composers and that
their works will have a long shelf life than what is the current trend.

I agree with you. Kishore Kumar was so lovely, jovial, great singer and he respected other
great singers of his time. Mukesh, Mannadey, Rafi.
he used to tell “give this song to him, give that song to him”. He was really lover of music
otherwise how many would ignore the offer and pass it to others just because of the
betterment of the music ? not everyone man.
But we, some Rafians and some Kishoreians are jealous, are some how unhappy because
of the success of others. That’s why they critise them, so sad.

KISHORE KUMAR IS GOD IN INDIAN FILM MUSIC. HE IS MY FAVOURITE SINGER OF ALL TIME. HE IS VERY VERSATILE SINGER IN OUR FILM INDUSTRY. HE SANG ALMOST EVERY TYPE OF SONGS.I LIKE HIS SAD SONGS LIKE - ‘ CHINGARI KOI BHADKE’. ‘JINDEGI KA SAFAR’. ‘ KOI HOTA JISKO AAPNA’ ETC. I THINK NO ONE SINGER IN THE INDIA CAN SING BETTER SAD SONG THAN KISHORE DA.

I am a fan of good music and fine artistes, I love to listen Manna da, Mukesh, Lata ji, Asha ji and…….. some very unknown singers like Savita saathi, Mangal singh,Maratib Ali, Naseebo Lala and some more because these peoples are giving and have given a lot to indian music and indian music is our heritage and we should not throw junk upon each other with the name of Rafi sb and Kishore sb or some others

I agree with Mr. JAWAID NASEEM (msg posted above this) that there can be no comparison of Kishore Da with Rafi Saab or vice versa. Both are distinct singers. I’m a big fan of Rafi Saab and Kishore da.
Both of them r hugely loved here in India. Both are legends. Long liv Rafi Saab and kishore da, we’ll all miss u both for the immense contribution u gave to us indians and all the ppl overseas with ur magical voices.

I challenge all KK’s fans to put forward a single KK number which could match the quality of the following songs:
1) O Duniya ke Rekhwale
2) Man re tu kahe na
3) Din dhal jaye haye
All “zindagi pyar ka geet hai”, “o sathi re” “ruk jana nahi” or such types of songs, which were big kK’s hits, pale in comparison to the above numbers. In fact the second song I listed has been voted the best bollywood song ever.
Please think about it and realize that while KK was a very good singer, Mohd. Rafi was just on another level.

I respect ur feelings for rafi sahab…. but quality of the song doesnt depends upon genere of the song wether the song is classical, western
etc etc….. quality depends upon the composition(no matter on which type
of music it’s based)…. composition should express the feel of words…
and dre are number of such type of songs of kishore da…..
although rafi sahab was complete singer but dont forget kishoreda was
also complete artist……….

The songs I listed are not very classic. There composition is semi-classic, which can also be said about some of KK’s songs. I mean yes, KK has sung some very souful songs, but these Rafi’s numbers that I listed have a greater musical quality and are more effective at conveying the message they are designed to convey. Remember KK was also present at that time and MDs could have used him, but they chose Rafi instead. In fact, in the movie Guide, Kishore sang “gata rehey mera dil” but the more challenging numbers went to Rafi.
KK might be great artist, in fact he was, but if one takes singing ability only, Rafi was and is simply the best.

u r quite rite abt mr.rafi …. infact kishoreda also accepted this fact
dat rafi sahab is better….. post aaradhna, several persons came to kishore
da and said him dat “Aapne to rafi sahab ki chutti kar di” but kishoreda
replied “tum sab ko music k bare mein kuch nahi pata, rafi sahab best hain aur main b unka fan hun”……
so as u see such a great artist who sung so many great songs(specially
with senior burman & junior burman)… who composed many great songs(aa chalke tujhe, koi lauta de mere bite hue din…etc etc)…. who made so many good films…. & who acted so brilliantly… such a great artist was
die hearted rafi fan.. may b more than you buddy…. so i juss wanna say d to all rafians dat dnt show so much resistence to kishoreda…. as he also loved mighty rafi a lot… both rafi sahab & kishoreda were great admirers of each other….. & both were equally great….
Rafi sahab>great singer…. kishoreda>great artist….

Hi guys.
There is NO NEED ot debate about who is good/better Rafi or KK…..actually do ANY of us REALIZE….arey apni auqaat hi kya ki in stalwarts ko accha ya bura keh sake ?
Both were SUPPPERB!! any one disagree ?
Their voice quality, their singing, the emotions they put into their songs…..is plain unsurpassable.
It is our bad luck that these are no more during our lifetime!!!

can you please rell us whether song recorded by us after 12 pm wilol be accepted by you? We were not able to get the tataindicom number 129002 and luckilly when we got we were late by few minutes. The song recorded on the phone no.9226363671 has been sung by kishorda”s fan from his childhood.

Rafi and kishore seem to dominate Indian Music Industry even today in a era of remix .We have side lined Mukesh ,Menna De and Mahendra Kapoor.It just show true talent and hard work never dieds.I am glade that younger singer want to copy Rafi and KK with Public demand.

We should not argue with Manne de and Mahendra Kapoor ,Lata yes ever KK himself used to call Rafisaab the Boss.Kishore was a great entertainer and remains so with even his singing ability but Rafi remain the great singer of all time.

Actually, to talk about Great kishore.
I would like to tell u about the song which both have sung..but we remember only of kishore da.
1) Tum bin Jaoo kaha
when i came to know that rafi saab also has sung this song in the same film i was shoked because wheneve at restaurants, at canteens at anywhere i heard this song is of kishore da.
the reason for this is,
i agree kishore da was not classical background. Rafi saab is great in singing ability than kishore da.
according to me there are three things in song. 1) taal 2) sur 3) emotion.
according to me the singer is great if he can put the right emotion in the song because to bring emotions u have to be perfect in sur and taal.
and kishore da is master of all singers in putting right emotions in song. thats why is greatest male singer of the indian film industry.
the words are very small to explain the kind of emotions which kishore da has expressed in every song
